RADIAL JDI PASSIVE DIRECT BOX, WITH JENSEN TRANSFORMER
Description
The Radial JDI is a passive direct box designed to handle extreme signal levels without distortion. Unlike an active DI which is limited by the input voltage of the circuit, the JDI employs a Jensen audio transformer as its prime mover. Jensen transformers are legendary for their ability to gracefully handle transient levels while delivering a smooth, warm Bessel resonance curve reminiscent of the finest vintage gear. With a flat response from 10Hz to 40kHz and virtually zero phase shift, the JDI delivers the pure, natural sound of the instrument without any artifacts.
The 100% passive circuitry inside the JDI is incredibly efficient. The transformer performs both high-to-low impedance conversion and signal balancing simultaneously with minimal load, and does so without any power at all. The transformer also introduces a magnetic bridge that passes through while rejecting stray DC voltage signals. This makes the JDI particularly adept at eliminating hum and buzz caused by ground loops.
Features include input and output ¼" connectors, a 15dB input pad, ground clearance, and 180° degree polarity reversal to help phase align your instrument with the PA. A secondary circuit is added for direct connection to high-output devices such as guitar amp or bass speakers plus a unique blending function allows stereo sources such as keyboards to be summed to mono, saving input channels worth.
Ruggedly built to handle the abuse of live touring, the JDI features a 14-gauge steel I-beam interior frame and a unique book-ended outer casing. The steel casing resists noise-causing electromagnetic pollution, and the sensitive inner workings of the transformer are further shielded from magnetic fields with a mu-metal can.
